Wall Works & Sculpture

2016-2017

From 2016-2017 I experimented heavily with digital fabrication techniques, mainly CNC routing.  These works are the result of that experimentation.

I developed a low-relief paper carving process which I used to make many of the works here.  The process involved vacuum-laminating 3 or more layers of colored paper, and paralell machining low relief into the resulting lamination to produce images.  The 3D surfaces used to drive the paralell machining was derived from images found or made, then processed in Grasshopper to produce useable geometry.

Several other works exhibit a rudimentary injection molding process I developed, whereby resin was forced into a CNC carved MDF mold by way of a homemade PVC pump.

Others were made using two-sided milling on a 3-axis CNC machine.
