Canal/Varick/Glade

2018

"Canal/Varick/Glade" is an installation proposal for LentSpace, an undeveloped, privately owned site in the Hudson Square neighborhood of lower Manhattan which has hosted a rotation of cultural programs since its inception in 2009.  It is intended to be a medium-long term temporary installation with a wide range of potential uses.
“Canal/Varick Glade” can be viewed as a response to a defecit of shaded space for congregation and relaxation amidst a bustling, exposed, and heavily trafficked area of the city. The design of the installation is also a response to the transitory nature of LentSpace, and is therefore intended to be minimal in execution and economical in construction. Judicious harmony between the need for prudence and a desire for an exceptional, versatile public space produced the Glade, which we believe to be an exciting and beautiful intervention.
